The challenge
Mover Technologies (Ormond Beach, Florida) needed a partner it could trust with a major enterprise project rather than a run of separate tasks. The system is large: a web platform, iOS and Android apps for two different audiences, customers and dealers, and a quoting layer that has to talk to freight carriers. The founder is an ex-programmer, and in his account the hard part was never the programming. Keeping control of a project this size is what is difficult, and the communication has to keep working across two very different working cultures, the US and Ukraine.
Our approach
unicrew provided programming, QA and design across effectively all of Mover Technologies’ module applications, as their software development partner. The platform was Microsoft-centric, which follows the founder’s own background in Microsoft tools: ASP.NET MVC in a Windows environment, with AWS in the cloud stack. We built the iOS and Android apps for both audiences. Customers use one to start the inventory process, which is what tells the system how many pieces there are to quote for; dealers use the other to see the job orders assigned to them, with their details and inventory, and to change statuses. A live-quote calculator collects data from each dealer and pulls API data from freight companies, so a user can choose which freight company handles the transportation. Two dedicated people on unicrew’s management side were constantly on the calls and managed pretty much everything internally, with Jira carrying phases and iterations and Moqups as the visual aid.
Results
What this engagement has to show is duration. Development started in 2009, the workflow around it became stable and process-driven along the way, and beta users were booking moves through the system by the time the founder wrote his Clutch review.
Freight and moving systems run through a lot of our work: the MiniMoves order-management platform and a moving-company software build are two more, and the client reviews page collects what those clients wrote themselves.
