Overview
Our client, Open Room Inc., developed a platform for the real estate market that radically streamlined operations for agents and buyers. unicrew delivered the Quality Assurance service for the company’s product, Forest, a sharing platform where real estate agents manage their offers and buyers can easily find the assets they want and negotiate with agents.
The application offers users a range of functions: uploading a property and adding details such as location, price, and other information, adding items to favorites, and chatting between real estate agents and buyers. A deal-management function also lets users make offers and close deals quickly.
As the client improved the application and added features, it needed a structured QA process to support that work.
The challenge
Any software development project has to follow the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) to maintain quality standards and promote customer satisfaction. Neglecting this process can lead to unexpected issues and prolonged development cycles, which is detrimental to both the development team and stakeholders.
The client did the development work in-house, and engaged unicrew as an independent Quality Assurance service provider to get an impartial, expert analysis of the QA roadmap from outside that team.
unicrew’s QA service covered the following:
- Establishing a manageable QA workflow
- Creating the Test Cases System
- Implementing QA Automation
- Extending, updating, and maintaining the QA automation process
- Developing the Testing Roadmap
The solution
-
QA workflow: we set up the proper workflow to streamline bug detection and reporting.
-
Test Cases System: the objective is to build a tailored set of test cases to support automation.
-
QA Automation: using the Test Cases System, the client can easily automate their QA processes.
-
Testing Roadmap: it outlines the holistic system of tests to run given the app’s features.
A defined QA workflow makes bug reporting and resolution easier to manage. Every QA workflow starts from a triggering event (for example, a scheduled test iteration or an automated script run) and includes a defined set of actions to identify, report, and fix the bugs. Following agile methodology, each task is prioritized and assigned to an owner. This approach ensures transparency and manageability, accelerating development and minimizing bugs.
The Test Cases System emerged as a critical component of the implemented QA procedures. Since the client’s primary objective was QA automation, the Test Cases became essential, as they outline the actions needed to create automated tests. To complete it, unicrew’s QA experts used the automated testing framework TestCafe.
TestCafe is a popular automated testing framework that lets developers write reliable and stable tests in JavaScript or TypeScript. It is known for ease of use and flexibility, which makes it a popular choice among software testing professionals. With TestCafe, QA teams can create and run tests for web applications across multiple browsers and platforms. It also provides features that let testers simulate user actions, automate regression tests, and generate reports.
To make a QA system sustainable, a product team has to develop and follow a Testing Roadmap. A correctly implemented roadmap ensures a long-term execution plan that streamlines tasks for QA engineers and makes development more predictable. A professional Testing Roadmap not only defines the scope for testing but also aggregates industry quality standards and best practices.
The result
Open Room obtained the QA workflow, the tailored Test Cases System, the automation and the documentation, plus a Testing Roadmap that can be applied at every stage of development. Jonathan Muller, the company’s CTO, gave his own account of what changed for his team in his Clutch review.
Independent testing of a product somebody else builds is its own discipline, and it is what unicrew’s software testing and QA practice does. More client accounts of that work sit on our client reviews page.
What the client says
Artelogic’s work had a very positive impact on our team’s morale. As our development quality was improving, our engineers were more confident in what they were doing, allowing them to work faster and with more confidence. As a result, our releases took less time and were less stressful.

The questions behind the project
What did unicrew do for Open Room's Forest platform?
unicrew delivered independent Quality Assurance consultancy. Open Room Inc. runs Forest, a sharing platform where real estate agents manage their offers and buyers find assets and negotiate, and the client keeps adding features, which is where the QA pressure came from. unicrew set up a manageable QA workflow, built a tailored Test Cases System, implemented and then maintained QA automation on top of it, and produced well-structured QA documentation plus a Testing Roadmap the client can apply at every stage of development.
Why did unicrew choose TestCafe for the automation?
The client's primary objective was QA automation, and the Test Cases System outlines the actions needed to create automated tests, so unicrew's QA experts used the automated testing framework TestCafe. TestCafe lets developers write reliable and stable tests in JavaScript or TypeScript, is known for ease of use and flexibility, and runs tests for web applications across multiple browsers and platforms. It also lets testers simulate user actions, automate regression tests, and generate reports.
How does unicrew structure a QA workflow?
Around triggering events and owners. Each QA workflow starts from a triggering event, for example a scheduled test iteration or an automated script run, then runs a defined set of actions to identify, report, and fix the bugs. Following agile methodology, each task is prioritized and assigned to an owner, which makes bug reporting and resolution clear and manageable. Above that sits the Testing Roadmap, a long-term plan that defines testing scope and aggregates industry quality standards.
Can unicrew run independent QA on our product?
Yes. Independent QA is a separate engagement from building the product: your engineers keep writing the code, and an outside team takes responsibility for testing it. That is what Open Room engaged unicrew for, an impartial expert assessment of the QA roadmap from outside their own team, delivered as a QA workflow that reflects the product's specifics and the team's capacity, a tailored Test Cases System with automation on top of it, a Testing Roadmap, and well-structured QA documentation.
