A salon booking platform doing 200-300 bookings per vendor a month (Lookgood)

unicrew built Lookgood's salon booking platform from start to finish, with real-time availability, SMS reminders, and scheduling that respects shared equipment.

Lookgood wanted salon customers to book straight from a salon's Facebook page and have the rest handled automatically. unicrew built the platform end to end in 2015, a three-month build under our former Artelogic brand: real-time availability, SMS confirmations and reminders, and a therapist backend that respects shared equipment. Each vendor on the platform makes 200-300 bookings a month.

Outcome at a glance

What this project delivered, in numbers.

  • 200-300Bookings per vendor each month

The challenge

Lookgood (Singapore) needed a booking product built end to end, not coded to a specification someone else had written. A customer should click “Book Now” on a nail salon’s Facebook page, log in, pick a service, and see appointment windows synced in real time with the backend, then get an SMS confirmation and a reminder the day before. Beauty salons make the backend harder: availability has to respect shared machinery (if there is only one diamond-peel machine, two free therapists still cannot both use it), so the scheduling logic had to be resource-aware.

Our approach

unicrew built the whole product as Lookgood’s software development partner, taking the requirements and then contributing real product thinking rather than only implementing them. The platform connects the customer-facing Facebook booking flow to a backend that syncs availability in real time, sends SMS confirmations and reminders, and gives therapists a view of each customer’s history and next visit. The scheduling engine factors in shared equipment, so two bookings cannot claim the same machine at the same time. The build ran three months, from March 2015.

Results

  • Each vendor on the platform makes 200-300 bookings per month.
  • Customers book from a salon’s Facebook page, with real-time availability and automated SMS confirmations and reminders.
  • The resource-aware backend keeps two bookings from claiming the same machine in the same slot.
  • unicrew advised on what might come next rather than only building to spec, and stayed on maintenance after launch.

Support outlasted the build by years. Long after handover, Pei Shan Wong was still bringing product issues to us: “For any maintenance issues I have, they usually get back to me in 24 hours.”

Booking constraints get awkward in other sectors too, and the platform we built for entertainment venues is the same problem in nightclubs and festivals. What other clients made of working with us is on our client reviews page.

“They always give advice on what may come in the future.”

What the client says

They built the product from start to finish. I appreciated how they thought through the process as well as the input from the business side. It’s not a situation where I tell them to code and they code it. They always give advice on what may come in the future. I’m very satisfied with their project management.

The questions behind the project

What did unicrew build for Lookgood?

unicrew built Lookgood's salon appointment-booking platform from start to finish, rather than coding to a specification someone else had written. A customer clicks Book Now on a salon's Facebook page, logs in, picks a service, and sees appointment windows synced in real time with the backend, then gets an SMS confirmation and a reminder the day before. Therapists get a backend view of each customer's history and next visit. Each vendor on the platform makes 200-300 bookings a month.

Why is availability harder to get right in a beauty salon?

Because a free therapist is not the same thing as a free slot. Treatments depend on machinery as well as people: if a salon owns one diamond-peel machine, two available therapists still cannot both use it, so scheduling that only checks staff calendars will sell an appointment nobody can deliver. unicrew built that constraint into Lookgood's scheduling logic, so two bookings cannot claim the same machine at the same time.

How long did the build take, and what happened after launch?

Three months, starting in March 2015 under our former Artelogic brand. unicrew worked as Lookgood's software development partner, taking the requirements and then contributing real product thinking rather than only implementing them. Support did not stop at handover either: years after launch, founder Pei Shan Wong was still bringing maintenance requests to us.

What booking and scheduling experience does unicrew bring to a new build?

The hard part of a booking product is rarely the calendar screen. It is modelling what genuinely makes a slot available: the staff, the room, the equipment, and the constraints that never show up in a calendar. unicrew engineers have worked that problem in more than one setting, from beauty salons here to nightlife and festival venues on Booked It's platform. What transfers to a new client is that experience and the people who have it. What we carry to the next engagement is the experience.
